General information:

The ongoing war has exposed tens of thousands of civilians to life-threatening and horrifying scenes. In many cases, these traumatizing events are followed by a traumatic response, which may manifest as re-experiencing, severe anxiety, confusion, and dissociation.

While most individuals, with adequate support and treatment, can recover from their initial response, some may develop long-term symptoms that meet the criteria for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Existing literature suggests that up to 30% of individuals who have experienced extraordinary combat events, such as the Second Lebanon War, the 2014 Gaza War, and the tragic events of 9/11, will develop PTSD. Among civilians exposed to extreme events within their own homes, PTSD rate is expected to be even higher.

Several factors, including the extent of exposure, the intensity of the events, and their unexpected occurrence in a seemingly safe environment, contribute to the risk of developing PTSD.

Rapid and professional treatment offers hope in preventing the transition from the initial response to full-blown PTSD.

The PTSD unit at the Sagol Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Research, Shamir Medical Center, is at the forefront of research and treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD ) . Comprising a multidisciplinary team of physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, physiologists, and physiotherapists, the Center is internationally renowned for its expertise in hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT).

In the context of the 2023 war, our primary objective is to deliver a rapid, customized rehabilitation program designed to alleviate symptoms, reduce the risk of PTSD, and facilitate a swift return to normal life.

Our professional Trauma Center team will offer a wide array of treatments, ranging from trauma-focused yoga and acupuncture to advanced psychiatric interventions, including inpatient care.

 It's important to note that our PTSD unit has extensive experience in the field trauma and has successfully treated diverse populations, including combat soldiers with severe PTSD, adults who developed PTSD after non-military events, and adults who experienced childhood trauma.

The unit has developed an innovative treatment protocol for severe, treatment-resistant PTSD. This groundbreaking approach utilizes newly developed HBOT protocols that have demonstrated the ability to induce neuroplasticity and repair damaged brain tissue, resulting in significant improvements in PTSD symptoms and quality of life. The new treatment protocol, with the support of the Ministry of Defense, is currently being administered to combat soldiers suffering from PTSD due to exposure to combat events.
